What is petroleum jelly made of?
Petroleum jelly is a semi-solid mixture of long-chain hydrocarbons (C25–C45) derived from the refining of crude oil. It is produced by dewaxing heavy lubricating-oil stocks and then purifying the resulting wax through distillation, hydrogenation, and filtration. The degree of purification determines the grade — from industrial (minimal refining) to snow white (maximum refining).
What is the difference between petroleum jelly and Vaseline?
Vaseline is a registered brand name owned by Unilever for its petroleum jelly products. Petroleum jelly is the generic name for the same substance. When buyers purchase bulk petroleum jelly from suppliers like Zumrut, they receive the same base material used in Vaseline products — without the brand premium.
Which grade of petroleum jelly is right for my application?
Industrial grade is suitable for lubrication, corrosion protection, and cable applications where skin contact is not required.
