Bitumen 80/100 Description
Bitumen 80/100 is a petroleum-grade paving bitumen defined by its penetration value — the depth, in tenths of a millimetre, that a standard 100g needle penetrates the sample in 5 seconds at 25°C. A range of 80–100 makes it noticeably softer and more flexible than the 60/70 grade, giving it a thermoplastic behaviour that softens at high temperatures and hardens at low temperatures — a property that governs its adhesion, rheology, durability and application temperature in the field.
Because it is softer than 60/70, Bitumen 80/100 is typically selected for cooler climates and lower-traffic roads, where flexibility to absorb thermal contraction matters more than resistance to rutting under heavy, high-speed traffic.
