Bitumen Penetration grade 30/45 Description
Bitumen Penetration Grade 30/45 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties. This grade of Bitumen is mainly used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses. Penetration Grade Bitumen supplied by ZUMRUT Co is petroleum grade bitumen, manufactured from fractional / vacuum distillation of crude oil. The Bitumen supplied by ZUMRUT is produced from the vacuum residue (short residue) feedstock. Penetration Grade bitumens are specified by the penetration and softening point test. The designation is by penetration range only. The penetration grade bitumen have a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at lower temperatures. This unique temperature/ viscosity relationship is important when determining the performance parameters such as the adhesion, rheology, durability and application temperatures of bitumen.
Bitumen Penetration grade 30/45 Applications
Bitumen penetration grade 30/45 is slightly softer than grade 20/30, making it suitable for a range of applications where some degree of flexibility is required along with durability. Here are the primary applications for bitumen penetration grade 30/45:
- Road Construction
– Moderate Traffic Roads: Used in the construction of urban and rural roads with moderate traffic volumes. It provides a good balance of durability and flexibility.
– Binder Courses: Suitable for the binder layer in road construction, providing a strong, flexible foundation for the surface layer.
– Asphalt Concrete Production:* Often used in the production of asphalt concrete mixtures for road surfaces, offering a balance between rigidity and flexibility. - Paving Projects
– Residential Streets: Ideal for paving residential streets where traffic loads are lower compared to highways but still require durable surfaces.
– Driveways and Walkways: Suitable for constructing driveways and pedestrian pathways, offering a durable yet slightly flexible surface. - Parking Lots
– Commercial Parking Areas: Used in parking lots for shopping centers, office complexes, and other commercial establishments, providing a durable surface that can handle vehicular traffic.
– Public Parking Facilities: Ideal for public parking lots where moderate traffic and load conditions are expected. - Industrial Flooring
– Light to Moderate Industrial Floors: Suitable for flooring in warehouses, light manufacturing units, and other industrial facilities where moderate loads are common.
– Loading Docks: Provides a durable surface for loading and unloading areas, offering resistance to moderate wear and tear. - Airfields
– Taxiways and Service Roads: Used in the construction of taxiways, service roads, and other areas within airports that are subjected to moderate traffic and loading conditions.
– Helipads: Suitable for helipads and helicopter landing areas, providing a stable and durable surface. - Bridge Decks
– Deck Surfacing: Used in surfacing bridge decks, offering a durable, weather-resistant layer that can handle traffic loads while providing some flexibility to accommodate thermal movements. - Sports Facilities
– Running Tracks: Utilized in the construction of running tracks and athletic fields where a slightly flexible yet durable surface is required.
– Sports Courts: Suitable for outdoor sports courts such as tennis courts and basketball courts. - Waterproofing and Roofing
– Roofing Felt Production: Used in the manufacture of roofing felts and membranes due to its adhesive properties and moderate flexibility.
– Waterproofing Applications: Applied in industrial waterproofing projects where a balance between hardness and flexibility is required to prevent water infiltration. - Railway Construction
– Railway Trackbeds: Used in constructing railway trackbeds to provide a stable, durable foundation for tracks, especially in areas with moderate traffic.
Packing of Bitumen 30/45
Paving Bitumen 30/45 is commonly packed in new steel drums, 150, 180 & 220 Kg barrels and 1MT and 500Kg Jumbo Bags or 300kg Bitubag.
Likewise, the rest of the grades are ready to load Ex-work bulk ZUMRUT Co. by truck.
Guaranty and safety of Bitumen 30/45
Bitumen 30/45, also known as penetration grade bitumen, is commonly used in road construction and paving. Its “30/45” designation refers to its penetration value, indicating the hardness and consistency of the bitumen. Ensuring the guaranty and safety of Bitumen 30/45 involves several factors:
- Quality Standards and Certifications :
– Bitumen 30/45 must comply with international standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, or equivalent national standards. These standards ensure the bitumen meets specific requirements for penetration, ductility, solubility, and flash point.
– Look for certifications from recognized bodies indicating the product has been tested and meets these standards. - Testing and Compliance :
– Regular testing during production ensures the bitumen maintains consistent quality. Tests should include penetration, softening point, ductility, and viscosity.
– Compliance with environmental regulations regarding emissions and handling should be verified. - Proper Storage and Handling :
– Bitumen should be stored in appropriate containers and at recommended temperatures to prevent degradation.
– Safety protocols for handling hot bitumen must be strictly followed to prevent burns and other injuries. - Supplier Reliability :
– Purchase bitumen from reputable suppliers with a track record of delivering high-quality products.
– Verify the supplier’s quality control processes and any third-party inspections or audits. - Usage and Application :
– Ensure correct application methods are followed for Bitumen 30/45 to achieve the desired performance in road construction.
– Proper heating and mixing procedures are crucial to maintaining the bitumen’s properties during application. - Safety Measures :
– Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used by workers handling bitumen to prevent exposure to high temperatures and fumes.
– Safety data sheets (SDS) should be available and followed to handle emergencies such as spills or fires.
