Description Bitumen AC10
Bitumen AC10 is a type of asphalt cement graded based on its viscosity. The “AC” stands for Asphalt Cement, and the number 10 indicates its viscosity of 1000 poises at 60°C (hence AC-10). It is commonly used in road construction and paving applications.
- Type: Asphalt Cement (Viscosity Graded)
- Viscosity: 1000 ± 250 poises at 60°C
- Penetration: Typically 60–70 dmm at 25°C
- Softening Point: ~45–55°C
- Solubility: > 99% in trichloroethylene
Application of Bitumen AC10
Main Applications:
Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Production
- Used as a binder in asphalt concrete for road surfaces.
- Ideal for base, binder, and surface courses in flexible pavements.
Road Construction & Rehabilitation
- Suitable for urban and rural roads, highways, and airport runways.
- Used in both new road construction and overlays.
Pavement Maintenance
- Used in patching potholes and repairing cracked or aged pavements.
- Applied in leveling courses before final overlays.
Surface Treatment and Seal Coats
- Employed in chip seal applications and fog seals.
- Improves waterproofing and extends pavement life.
Waterproofing and Damp Proofing
- Used in foundations, roofs, and other waterproofing structures where moderate viscosity bitumen is required.
Premix Carpet & Bituminous Macadam Layers
- Suitable for light- to medium-duty roads and service lanes.
Key Features:
- Provides excellent adhesion to aggregates
- Withstands moderate to high traffic loads
- Performs well in temperate climates
- Ensures durability and water resistance

Difference Between Bitumen AC10 & AC20
- AC10 is less viscous and more suitable for medium-traffic roads in moderate climates.
- AC20 is more viscous, offering greater stiffness and rut resistance for high-traffic roads and hotter climates.
