What is RC Base Oil?
RC Base Oil typically refers to Refined Crude Base Oil or Recycled Base Oil — depending on regional terminology — and is a Group I base oil. These base oils are produced through solvent refining processes and contain relatively higher levels of sulfur, aromatic compounds, and unsaturated hydrocarbons compared to higher Group II/III base oils.
They are widely used in blending lubricants, especially for applications not requiring ultra-high purity, such as:
- Automotive lubricants
- Hydraulic fluids
- Greases
- Transformer oils
- Industrial oils
The Importance of Using SN150 Recycled Base Oil in Serbia
Why It Matters in Serbia
- Environmental Sustainability
Serbia is part of the EU’s broader push toward circular economy and waste minimization. Re-refining SN150 helps reduce environmental contamination and aligns with local priorities to protect water and soil. - Energy & Resource Efficiency
Serbia relies heavily on imports for crude oil. Recycling SN150 offers a more energy-efficient and sustainable alternative that eases reliance on raw imports. - Economic Advantages
Using recycled base oil can reduce production costs for lubricant manufacturers. Plus, it can foster job creation in emerging recycling and re-refining sectors, contributing positively to Serbia’s economy. - Regulatory Alignment & EU Aspirations
Serbia is advancing regulations compatible with European environmental norms. Adopting recycled SN150 helps companies align with existing and potential future legal standards. - Industrial Relevance
SN150 is versatile—used in engine oils, hydraulic fluids, greases, metalworking fluids, transformer oil

Application of recycled base oil SN150 in Serbian industry
1) Automotive & Fleet Maintenance
Engine oils (legacy gasoline/diesel, off-road)
- Role: viscosity builder for SAE 10W/30/40 with SN500/BS150 + VI improver.
- Targets: KV100 9–14 cSt (grade-dependent), VI ≥ 95, TBN via additive.
- Notes: Best for older fleets, municipal vehicles, agricultural diesel where OEM permits Group I systems.
ATF/gear pre-blends (non-friction modified)
- Role: diluent for additive packages; finish with lighter cut if needed.
- Targets: Oxidation stability, foaming control.
2) Industrial & Manufacturing
Hydraulic oils (ISO VG 32/46/68)
Role: base for anti-wear (AW) formulations (ZnDTP/ashless).
Targets: VI ≥ 95–105, air release ≤ 10 min, demulsibility 40–40–0 (15 min), FZG ≥ 10.
Use cases: presses, injection molding, CNC hydraulics, mobile hydraulics in construction/mining.
Industrial gear oils (ISO VG 68/100/150)
Role: with EP sulfur-phosphorus packages; SN150 as diluent with SN500.
- Targets: FZG ≥ 12, micropitting resistance (where required).
- Use cases: cement plants, steel rolling lines, conveyor gearboxes.
Turbine & circulating oils
- Role: base for R&O oils in power gen & paper/steel circulation systems.
- Targets: Low sludge/varnish tendency, rapid air release, RPVOT per spec.
Compressor oils (reciprocating)
- Role: straight-grade R&O; for screw/rotary typically prefer Group II—SN150 can be used where OEM allows.
Spindle & way oils
- Role: light viscosity fraction (blend with SN70/neutral light if available); tackifier/friction modifier for way oils.
3) Metalworking & Fabrication
Neat cutting oils / machining
- Role: carrier with polar EP/extreme-pressure and fatty packages.
- Targets: low misting, proper flash point (≥170 °C typical), copper corrosion ≤1b.
Soluble/emulsifiable oils
- Role: SN150 as oil phase for semi-synthetic/cutting emulsions.
- Targets: emulsion stability, hard-water tolerance (Danube basin waters), bio-resistance.
Rolling oils (steel/aluminum – light duty)
- Role: where viscosity and cleanliness allow; check ash and aromatic content.
4) Construction, Mining, and Aggregates
Diesel engine oils (legacy), hydraulic oils, gear oils
- Role: same as above; strong fit for loaders, excavators, crushers, cement mixers.
- Note: Dusty environments demand robust dispersancy/filtration—spec additive treat rates accordingly.
5) Agriculture & Food Supply Chain (non-food contact)
UTTO/STOU-style fluids (older equipment)
- Role: blend component toward SAE 10W-30 viscosity window with friction modifiers.
- Targets: wet-brake chatter control, oxidation stability.
General purpose R&O oils
- Use: conveyors, bearings, chains in grain silos, mills (non H1).
6) Transport & Logistics (Road, Rail, Inland Waterways)
Marine/inland vessel lubes (Danube/Sava craft)
- Role: base for TPEO trunk piston oils in older low-speed diesels, gear oils for deck equipment (where allowed).
Rail/industrial greases
- Role: SN150 as grease base oil with lithium/lithium-complex soaps (NLGI 1–3).
- Targets: penetration per ASTM D217, dropping point (≥180–250 °C depending on thickener).
7) Power Generation & Utilities
Transformer/insulating oil (limited)
- Note: Naphthenics generally preferred for low pour & dielectric performance; SN150 can serve in non-critical insulating or heat-transfer roles where specs allow.
Heat-transfer oil (non-synthetic)
- Role: light fraction with thermal stability improvers; monitor coking tendency.
8) Rubber, Plastics & Chemical Processing
Process/Extender oils (non-food/consumer contact)
- Role: plasticizer in rubber compounding, defoamer carrier.
- Targets: control PCA/PAH content per customer policy.
Mold release & defoamer carriers
- Role: SN150 provides film and solvency; add silicone or specialty additives as needed.
9) Wood, Paper & Cement
Saw guide oils, chain oils, kiln gear oils
- Role: EP/R&O packages; SN150 helps flow in colder months.
Circulating oils for paper machines
- Targets: water separability, foam control, cleanliness.
