Rubberized Bitumen Emulsion

Rubberized Bitumen Emulsion (RBE) – Description

Rubberized Bitumen Emulsion is a specially formulated bituminous binder produced by dispersing fine particles of bitumen, natural or synthetic rubber, and stabilizing agents in water with the aid of an emulsifying agent. This innovative product combines the flexibility, elasticity, and crack resistance of rubber with the durability, adhesion, and waterproofing properties of bitumen.

The emulsion appears as a stable, dark brown to black liquid and can be easily applied at ambient temperatures without the need for heating. Once the water evaporates, the bitumen-rubber blend forms a strong, elastic, and water-resistant film that adheres firmly to a wide range of surfaces.

Key Features

  • High elasticity and flexibility
  • Excellent resistance to cracking and aging
  • Strong adhesion to different substrates (concrete, asphalt, metal, wood)
  • Superior waterproofing and protective properties
  • Environmentally friendly, as it reduces heating and harmful emissions

Applications of Zümrüt Rubberized Bitumen Emulsion

  • Road construction and maintenance – for flexible, crack-resistant pavements
  • Waterproofing – foundations, roofs, tunnels, and retaining walls
  • Protective coating – for steel, concrete, and wooden structures against moisture and corrosion
  • Dust control and soil stabilization in infrastructure projects

Application Instructions of Zümrüt Rubberized Bitumen Emulsion(ZRBE)

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, oil, loose particles, or any contaminations.
  • Repair cracks, potholes, or damaged areas before application.
  • For highly porous or dusty surfaces, apply a thin primer coat (diluted emulsion with 20–30% water) to improve adhesion.

Application Methods

Rubber Bitumen Emulsion can be applied using:

  • Brush or roller – for small surfaces and detailed work.
  • Spray equipment – for large surface coverage and uniform application.
  • Squeegee or mop – for horizontal surfaces.

Usage Guidelines

  1. Stir thoroughly before application to ensure uniform consistency.
  2. Apply in one or more coats depending on the required thickness and purpose.
  • Waterproofing: 2–3 coats with cross application.
  • Protective coating: Single coat may be sufficient.
  • Road works: Apply as per design specification (tack coat, seal coat, or slurry).
  1. Allow each coat to dry completely (typically 4–6 hours, depending on temperature and humidity) before applying the next.
  2. Do not apply when rain is expected, or at temperatures below 5°C.

Coverage

  • Approx. 0.5 – 1.5 kg/m² per coat, depending on substrate porosity and intended application.

Drying & Curing

  • Initial drying: 2–4 hours under normal conditions.
  • Full curing: 24–48 hours, forming a tough, elastic, and water-resistant film.

Cleaning of Tools

  • Clean brushes, rollers, and equipment with water immediately after use.
  • Once cured, the emulsion can only be removed mechanically.

Features and Benefits of RBE
