Description of Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB 70)
Polymer Modified Bitumen 70 (PMB 70) is a high-performance bituminous binder produced by incorporating premium-grade polymers—typically styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS)—into conventional bitumen. This modification enhances the elastic and adhesive properties of the bitumen, resulting in superior resistance to deformation, cracking, and aging compared to standard paving bitumen.
PMB 70 offers excellent flexibility at low temperatures and high stiffness at elevated temperatures, making it particularly suitable for regions experiencing significant temperature fluctuations or heavy traffic loads. The polymer modification ensures improved rutting resistance, fatigue life, and adhesion between aggregates, thereby extending pavement life and reducing maintenance costs.
Key Properties:
- Penetration: Around 60–80 dmm (depending on formulation)
- Softening Point: Typically ≥ 60°C
- Elastic Recovery: > 70%
- Superior resistance to rutting, cracking, and stripping
- Enhanced temperature susceptibility performance
Application of Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB 70)
Polymer Modified Bitumen 70 (PMB 70) is specially formulated for high-performance and long-lasting pavement structures. Thanks to its superior elasticity, adhesion, and resistance to deformation, it is ideal for demanding road construction and maintenance projects.
Main Applications:
1-Highways and Expressways:
- Used in wearing and binder courses to resist heavy traffic loads and rutting.
- Provides excellent durability and smooth riding quality.
2-Airport Runways and Taxiways:
- Ensures stability under high tire pressures and extreme temperature conditions.
- Reduces cracking and deformation caused by aircraft movements.
3-Urban Roads and Intersections:
- Performs well under frequent braking and acceleration stresses.
- Minimizes reflective cracking and surface wear.
4-Bridge Decks and Flyovers:
- Offers enhanced flexibility and waterproofing characteristics.
- Prevents thermal cracking and fatigue under dynamic loads.
5-Industrial and Container Yards:
- Suitable for pavements subjected to continuous heavy loads and static pressures.
- Provides longer service life with minimal maintenance.
6-Rural Roads and Climate-Extreme Zones:
- Maintains performance under wide temperature variations.
- Prevents brittleness at low temperatures and softening at high temperatures
