Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502

What is Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502(SBR 1502)

Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502 (SBR 1502 ) is a type of synthetic rubber. It is a copolymer made from styrene and butadiene, produced through an emulsion polymerization process. SBR 1502 is widely used in the manufacture of tires, footwear, industrial rubber goods, and various automotive components due to its good abrasion resistance, excellent aging stability, and strong resilience. It offers a balanced performance in terms of cost and properties, making it one of the most popular synthetic rubbers in the industry.

uses of Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502 (SBR 1502)

SBR 1502 is used in a variety of applications due to its versatile properties. Some of its primary uses include:

  1. Tires : It is commonly used in the manufacture of car, truck, and bus tires, especially in treads and sidewalls, due to its good wear resistance and durability.
  2. Footwear : Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502 is used in the production of shoe soles and other components because of its flexibility and resilience.
  3. Industrial Rubber Goods : This includes hoses, belts, seals, gaskets, and conveyor belts, which benefit from SBR’s excellent mechanical properties and resistance to abrasion.
  4. Automotive Parts : Components such as vibration dampers, seals, and various molded rubber parts are made from SBR 1502.
  5. Adhesives and Sealants : SBR is used as a base material for adhesives and sealants due to its strong bonding properties.
  6. Rubber Flooring : Its durability and flexibility make it suitable for rubber mats and flooring applications.
  7. Construction Materials : SBR 1502 is used in waterproofing membranes, roofing materials, and other construction-related products.
  8. Sports Goods : Equipment like balls, grips, and protective gear are often made using SBR due to its shock-absorbing properties.

Why is SBR 1502 used professionally to make car tires?

SBR 1502 (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) is commonly used in the production of car tires for several key reasons:

  1. Wear resistance: SBR 1502 offers excellent abrasion and wear resistance, which is essential for tire longevity and durability. This property helps tires withstand rough road conditions and ensures a longer lifespan.
  2. Good balance of strength and flexibility: SBR provides a good combination of tensile strength and flexibility, making tires durable while allowing them to absorb shocks and vibrations, improving ride comfort.
  3. Cost-effectiveness: SBR is relatively inexpensive compared to natural rubber, which makes it a cost-effective choice for tire manufacturers without compromising on performance.
  4. Heat resistance: Car tires are subjected to high temperatures, especially during prolonged driving. SBR 1502 exhibits good resistance to heat, which helps prevent tire degradation under such conditions.
  5. Compatibility with other materials: SBR is often blended with other types of rubber (like natural rubber or butadiene rubber) in tire formulations, which allows manufacturers to fine-tune the tire’s properties to meet specific performance requirements.
  6. Good traction on wet surfaces: SBR 1502 contributes to the tire’s performance on wet roads by providing a balance between grip and rolling resistance, which enhances safety and fuel efficiency.

Packing of Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502(SBR 1502)

Normally it packed in 35 ±0.5 KG bales wrapped with polyethylene film, and in 36 bales per crate (1260±18 KG).

Storage of SBR 1502

  • Temperature Control : Store Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502 in a cool, dry place with temperatures preferably between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, both high and low.
  • Humidity : Keep the material in a low-humidity environment to prevent moisture absorption, which can affect the rubber’s properties.
  • Light Protection : Protect Styrene Butadiene Rubber 1502 from direct sunlight and UV light, which can cause degradation and affect its physical properties.
  • Ventilation : Ensure proper ventilation in the storage area to avoid the buildup of fumes and to maintain air quality.
  • Avoid Contaminants : Keep the material away from chemicals, oils, and solvents that could cause contamination or degradation.
  • Packaging : Store SBR 1502 in its original packaging or in airtight containers to prevent contamination and protect it from environmental factors.
  • Fire Safety : As SBR is a combustible material, store it away from sources of ignition and ensure appropriate fire safety measures are in place.
  • Rotation : Use a first-in, first-out (FIFO) system to ensure older stock is used before newer stock, minimizing the risk of degradation over time.
