Refinery Wax Definition
Slack Wax 5% oil is a crude wax obtained during the refining process of petroleum. It is a mixture of high-molecular-weight paraffin wax and oil. The term “slack” refers to the wax’s semi-solid or plastic consistency at room temperature, distinguishing it from fully refined, harder waxes. Slack wax typically contains impurities such as oil, resins, and other hydrocarbons.
Refinery Wax oil content range is from 5% to 30%. It is also known as Fully Refined and Semi Refined Paraffin Wax raw material. Refinery Wax is used to produce all grades of paraffin wax by deoiling and bleaching processes. Deoiling process is decrease the oil of slack wax by different methods and bleaching process is discoloring Refinery wax from yellow or brown to the white. By these types of refining, we can produce paraffin wax from slack wax.
Slack Wax 5% oil content
Slack wax with a 5% oil typically consists of a mixture of solid hydrocarbons, along with a small percentage of oil. The oil content refers to the fraction of liquid hydrocarbons present within the Refinery wax. The solid portion mainly consists of long-chain saturated hydrocarbons, while the oil content consists of shorter-chain hydrocarbons and other liquid components.
Using refinery wax with 5%
Refinery wax with 5% oil content, often referred to as slack wax or semi-refined paraffin wax, is a byproduct of the oil refining process. Due to its lower oil content, it has a wide range of applications in various industries. Here are some of the main uses:
- Candle Manufacturing
Benefits: The wax’s low oil content makes it an ideal choice for producing high-quality candles, ensuring a longer burn time and better stability. - Rubber Industry
Function: Used as a softening agent in the rubber production process, particularly for tires, hoses, and other rubber products. It improves flexibility and processing during manufacturing. - Packaging
Uses: Applied as a coating or additive in packaging materials like paper, cardboard, or corrugated boxes to improve moisture resistance. - Polishing and Coatings
Applications: Common in the production of shoe polishes, furniture wax, and other polishes. It provides a glossy finish and protective layer. - Textile Industry
Purpose: Refinery wax is used in the textile industry for fabric treatment, providing the materials with water-repellent properties. - Adhesives
Usage: Often used in hot melt adhesives, enhancing the adhesive’s thermal stability and preventing it from becoming brittle over time. - Wood Processing
Role: Helps in the wood treatment process, providing a protective layer against moisture and improving the durability of the wood. - Board Industry (MDF/Chipboard)
Function: In the production of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and chipboards, refinery wax is used as an additive to improve water resistance and durability of the boards.
Refinery wax with 5% oil content is versatile and well-suited for applications requiring a moderate balance between flexibility and hardness.

Slack Wax 5% oil content maintenance and storage
Proper maintenance and storage of slack wax with 5% oil content are essential to ensure product quality, prolong shelf life, and maintain its functional properties. Here are key guidelines for handling slack wax:
- Storage Conditions
Temperature: Slack wax should be stored in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight or heat sources. The ideal storage temperature is typically between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme heat may cause the wax to soften or melt, while freezing conditions can lead to brittleness.
Humidity: Slack wax is sensitive to moisture, so it should be kept in a low-humidity environment. High humidity levels may cause contamination or degradation of the wax.
Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation in storage areas to avoid buildup of fumes, especially in hot climates. - Packaging
Sealed Containers: Slack wax should be stored in tightly sealed, moisture-proof containers such as metal drums, plastic drums, or high-quality plastic bags. This helps prevent contamination by dirt, dust, or moisture.
Labeling: Containers should be clearly labeled with product specifications (such as oil content, batch number, and manufacturing date) to prevent confusion and ensure quality control. - Handling and Maintenance
Avoid Contamination: During handling, ensure that equipment and tools used to manipulate the wax (e.g., scoops, drums) are clean and free from contaminants like dirt or other chemicals.
Temperature Control During Use: When heating slack wax for processing, it should be done gradually and controlled carefully to avoid overheating. Slack wax can degrade if exposed to high temperatures for extended periods, typically above 60°C to 70°C (140°F to 158°F).
Regular Checks: Periodically check the wax for any signs of degradation, such as changes in color, odor, or consistency. If these are observed, the wax may no longer be suitable for its intended applications. - Shelf Life
Slack wax can generally be stored for up to 12 months if kept in optimal conditions. After this period, it’s advisable to inspect the wax for any signs of deterioration before use. - Fire Safety
Fire Risk: Like many petroleum-based products, slack wax can be flammable at high temperatures. Ensure that storage areas are equipped with fire safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers (specifically Class B, suitable for flammable liquids).
Handling Heat Sources: Avoid exposure to open flames, sparks, or other ignition sources near slack wax storage or processing areas.
Every technical aspect of the Light Slack Wax we provide is subject to very rigorous controls. It is generally agreed that the regulating procedure is the single most important part of the job. These processes for monitoring are quite specific and difficult to understand. We are very aware of the importance of the step involving filtration. As a consequence of this, a high degree of precision is accomplished at this step by using high-tech tools. Zumrut’s Light Slack Wax is produced in a purest form and at a particular melting temperature. There is no evidence that anything is deteriorating or fading away while the melting is taking place.
Zumrut exports the highest-quality Slack Wax Light in different grades from Iran, Turkey, and the UAE to other countries around the world.
