PG Bitumen 70-10

Description

Bitumen C320 is a paving grade bitumen manufactured to AS 2008 Table 2.2 and is suitable for medium to heavy asphalt applications as well as for heavy duty and hot climate seals.

Class 320 bitumen is utilized in the making of asphalt pavements in higher traffic areas due to its exponential resistance to fatigue and high viscosity that withstand elevated temperatures and heavy traffic loads. Due to its high viscosity property, Bitumen C320 is employed in making highways and expressways where the traffic loads are higher.
In comparison with Bitumen C240, Class 320 Bitumen works well in warmer climates for making asphalt pavements. It’s renowned for its exceptional performance, durability and resistance to deformation to ensure the integrity of structures and pavements.

Bitumen C320 Applications

Bitumen C320 is primarily for use in asphalt, but can also be sprayed as a sealing binder for heavy duty applications and in hot desert regions. In asphalt applications, appropriate mixture and pavement designs should be employed to maximise the performance of the asphalt layer in service.

  1. Road Construction and Maintenance
High-Traffic Roads: Ideal for highways, freeways, and urban roads with heavy vehicular movement.
Pavement Layers: Used in base, binder, and wearing courses of asphalt pavements.
High-Stress Areas: Suitable for intersections, roundabouts, and areas subjected to braking and turning forces.
  2. Airport Runways and Taxiways
With its high stiffness and durability, Bitumen C320 is used for constructing and maintaining runways and taxiways to withstand the heavy loads of aircraft.
  3. Industrial and Heavy-Duty Applications
Port Facilities and Container Yards: Excellent for areas subjected to constant heavy axle loads and static loads.
Freight Terminals: Performs well under frequent loading and unloading of goods.
  4. High-Temperature Climates
The high softening point ensures it resists rutting and deformation in regions with elevated temperatures.
  5. Modified Bitumen Products
Acts as a base material for the production of polymer-modified bitumen (PMB) used in projects requiring enhanced performance characteristics.
  6. Bridge Decks
Provides a durable and stable asphalt layer for bridges, which are subjected to varying temperatures and heavy traffic.
  7. Other Specialty Uses
Asphalt Mixes: Suitable for hot mix asphalt and stone mastic asphalt (SMA) for high-performance paving.
Industrial Flooring: Sometimes used in specialized industrial flooring where resistance to heavy loads is necessary.

Recommended handling data for asphalt applications are as follows:

Mixing Temperature   Holding time at Mixing Temperature   Medium term storage temperature   Medium term storage time Maximum safe handling temperature
  165-175°C   14 days   130-150°C   30 days 185°C

Sealing recommendations

Spraying Temperature Holding time at spraying temperature   Medium term storage temperature   Medium term storage time   Minimum pavement temperature
  170-185°C   7 days   130-150°C   30 days 15°C

Health & safety

Viva Bitumen C320 is unlikely to present any significant health or safety hazard when properly used in the recommended application where good standards of industrial practice are maintained.
